When it comes to working at heights, there’s no room for shortcuts. Our Ministry-approved Working at Heights Training goes beyond the basics, it’s about giving workers the confidence, awareness, and practical skills to make safe decisions when it matters most.

Led by instructors with over 25 years of real jobsite and safety training experience, this course is designed for workers who use fall protection equipment on construction projects. We don’t just teach compliance, we teach understanding. Every worker who completes this program walks away knowing why the rules exist, how to apply them in real-world conditions, and what to do when something doesn’t feel right.

You’ll learn how to recognize fall hazards, properly inspect and use harnesses and lanyards, and follow safe procedures for ladders, scaffolds, and other elevated work areas. The course combines engaging classroom instruction with hands-on practice, ensuring every participant leaves not just certified, but capable.

Theoretical Component

In the classroom, participants will learn how to think critically about working at heights understanding the why behind every rule and piece of equipment. By the end, you’ll be able to:

  • Recognize the common hazards and risks associated with working at heights.

  • Apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or reduce fall hazards.

  • Know when and how to properly use ladders, scaffolds, and guardrails.

  • Understand when warning systems or physical barriers are required on site.

  • Identify different types of fall protection systems and their proper use, care, and limitations.

  • Choose the right equipment for the job — and understand how to use it safely.

  • Know the key roles and responsibilities involved in developing and executing a rescue plan.

Practical Component

This is where training turns into skill. Participants will demonstrate their ability to safely and confidently handle real-life scenarios by:

  • Inspecting and fitting fall protection equipment correctly.

  • Donning and doffing a full-body harness with proper adjustment.

  • Calculating safe fall distances and understanding clearance requirements.

  • Showing sound judgment and safe practices when using fall protection systems.

When is Working at Heights training required?

If your job takes you off the ground, even for a moment, this course is for you.

Under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (O. Reg. 213/91 – Construction Projects), Working at Heights Training is mandatory for anyone working on a construction project who uses fall protection equipment such as:

  • Travel restraint systems

  • Fall arrest systems

  • Fall restricting systems

  • Safety nets

  • Work belts or safety belts

But safety doesn’t stop at the construction site. Workers across warehousing, maintenance, roofing, farming, and manufacturing also face similar fall hazards and the same principles apply.

Whether you’re on a scaffold, mezzanine, roof, or loading dock, knowing how to properly identify hazards, select the right equipment, and prevent falls can save lives.
