Forklift & Telehandler Training

Forklift Training can cover counterbalance forklifts and rough-terrain forklifts. Telehandler or variable-reach forklift training is available as an additional equipment-specific add-on. The equipment required for practical training should be confirmed when arranging the course.

Not automatically. Forklift is the primary course. Telehandler training can be added when workers will operate variable-reach equipment. Additional equipment-specific instruction and practical evaluation are required because Telehandlers have different reach characteristics, controls, load charts, and operating limitations.

Yes. Training combines theory with hands-on equipment operation and an individual practical operator evaluation. Participants are expected to demonstrate practical operating skills rather than completing classroom theory alone.

Plan for approximately eight hours, or a full training day. Actual training time can vary depending on participant experience, group size, equipment types, workplace conditions, and the time required for individual practical evaluations. Adding Telehandler training may require additional time.

Our Forklift & Telehandler Training certificate is valid for three years under our current training standard. This should not be interpreted as a government-issued Ontario forklift licence with a statutory three-year expiry. Additional training may be required sooner when equipment, attachments, duties, workplace conditions, or operator competency needs change.

Ontario requires employers to ensure workers are competent to operate the equipment and perform the work assigned to them. There is not one universal government-issued Ontario forklift licence that automatically qualifies a worker for every lift truck or workplace. Training and evaluation are important parts of establishing operator competency, but employers remain responsible for the actual equipment and workplace conditions.

No. Training and practical evaluation need to reflect the equipment the worker is expected to operate. Counterbalance forklift training should not be treated as automatic qualification to operate a rough-terrain forklift, Telehandler, unfamiliar attachment, or substantially different equipment without the appropriate additional training or evaluation.

Yes. Private on-site group training is available. We prefer to use suitable equipment supplied by the employer so workers can train on equipment relevant to their workplace. If suitable equipment is not available, we can help coordinate rental equipment when required. Rental arrangements and costs should be confirmed before training.

Participants should bring valid government-issued photo identification, a valid driver's licence, CSA-approved safety boots, a hard hat, high-visibility clothing, and any additional PPE required by the workplace or project. Participants should also wear appropriate work clothing for hands-on equipment operation.

Yes. Our current group-training format is intended for workers with previous operating experience on the equipment being evaluated. If you have completely new operators with no previous seat time, contact us before arranging training so we can review the required training time and practical setup.
