Course Overview

Practical First Aid, CPR & AED Training

Emergency First Aid Training gives participants the practical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to common injuries and medical emergencies until professional help is available.

We deliver the Canadian Red Cross Basic/Emergency First Aid + CPR/AED Level C program. The course combines instructor-led learning with demonstrations, CPR mannequin practice, AED training, choking-response practice, first-aid scenarios, skill evaluation, and a knowledge evaluation.

CPR Level C includes CPR and choking-response skills for adults, children, and infants. Participants also learn how an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED, is used during a cardiac emergency and how AED use works together with CPR.

The course also develops a structured approach to emergency response. Participants learn how to recognize an emergency, identify immediate hazards, assess the person, activate emergency medical services, provide appropriate first aid within their training, and continue care until additional help arrives.

Ontario's WSIB First Aid Program now refers to the former Emergency First Aid level as Basic First Aid. Emergency First Aid Training remains StartSafe's approved course name, and successful participants receive Canadian Red Cross Basic/Emergency First Aid + CPR/AED Level C certification.

For workplace purposes, employers need to select the appropriate first-aid level for their workforce. Under current WSIB guidance, workplaces with five or fewer workers on a shift require at least one worker with Basic First Aid, while workplaces with six or more workers on a shift require at least one worker with Intermediate First Aid.

Certification is earned through full course participation, successful demonstration of required practical skills, and successful completion of the required knowledge evaluation. Participants who complete the program successfully receive Canadian Red Cross certification valid for three years.
